What is this game?Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, developed by BioWare and released September 26, 2000, is the second computer role-playing game in the Baldur's Gate series, which takes place just a few months after the events of Baldur's Gate. It is based on the 2nd edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role-playing system but mixes in some elements such as the new monk, sorcerer, and barbarian core classes introduced in the 3rd edition. The story is set in the Forgotten Realms, the most popular D&D story setting. It has sold over 2,000,000 units and is widely regarded as one of the best role-playing games of all time. |

Will it be possible to use mods with this?
You can try =)
If the mod creates and registry entries, then it may be difficult for it to work.
Hi milo,
I don't think most of the mods create registry entries. Most just go through the override folder, I think.
Thank you very much for your effort! The games that you made portable are my all time favorites. I am grateful and happy :).
Great work! I'm having trouble with this one though - does anyone else get the error "An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 628 Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:data/Hd0GMosc.bif" when trying to run? Advice?
Oh cruel fate!
sadly i'm hit by assertion errors too when i try to run BG1 and BG2
anyone with any ideas?
I'm having trouble with this one though - does anyone else get the error "An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 628 Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:data/Hd0GMosc.bif"
why i fix this?
with v2 update, Baldurs Gate II works ¨out-of-the-box¨ on Linux (Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex)
very nice! thank you!
I got BG1 to work through the assertion error ... actually i had the patch installed like Milo said. (files overwritten, access paths corrected as there weher somtin like "D:" in them ... )
Then, it would give me the "assertion error", so i launched the app throuh the original exe found in the data folder called bgmain.exe ...
And Voilà ! Dont know why the launcher gave trouble despite the patch.
Anyways, It worked.
Hope this helps, im gonna try this out for BG2 as well, good luck.
Would just like to say thank you so very much for the hard work put into this. These games still out shine any of the RPG's out now adays (including NWN) and now I can sneak and play at work too :O)
Keep it going!!
I am getting an odd error when I try to run this,
It states I must be able to write to the registry to run the app.
I was under the impression no registry entries where made?
The program will write to the registry, then remove all entries it added. =)
I understand, and I appreciate all the work that went into it, unfortunately for me I am getting an error, I am sure it has to do with my group policy setting. Unfortunately I am likely to be beheaded if change it (I do have admin status, but I am locked out of the group policy setting for some reason). Thanks anyway, unless there is a work around.
Hi, so nice your work!
But i have a question... if i was to convert your work in italian? i have orignal italian games, can i change the files? yes, no and what iles do i have to cheange, and howw?
Hope you write me soon, bye!
When i try to load the portable, i got th message: Unable to Open BIF:data/Hd0GMosc.bif
Anybody fixed it?
hi guys is it possible to launch this without admin-login?
because i dont have it for some reason but i wanna play my good old bg2 :) if i try to launch the prog i get something like: "You must be logged in as local administrator for this launcher to work."
Hey I downloaded Dungeon Siege, and thank you! but i got Baldur's Gate 2 and it should work fine to my lore, but i'm running Vista and i don't have Admin rights. so if there's any way possible you can somehow alter the launcher for it's portability to allow us loser like non administrators access to such divine games, it would be greatly appreciated! =)
but thank you for the work you've put into this, it probably take a decent amount of your social life, and i wish that not to be in vein. also: i did do the patch and used both launchers, patch and non, and both say something along the lines of "Don't run the program unless you know where it's been or you've used it before."
Btw: i HATE VISTA! but i suppose it's doing all this for the sake of anti-viral activity which i am somewhat grateful for.
anyways, THANK YOU Milo!
friggin awesome. just dug up all my disks for this and disk 2 (the one required to play...) is missing. horray for portable apps!
Hey, I was wondering if anyone else had this strange problem with the Baldur's Gate 2 SoA & ToB Portable full download. The game loads perfectly, graphics are fine, etc, but the interface is that of Baldur's Gate 1.
This means the icons, portraits, etc are distorted, and the inventory screen doesn't allow duel-weapons.
Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem, and even better, if anyone knows how to fix it.
Oh, and Milo, you the MAN!
hey milo, good job on all the games you managed to make portable! :)
i just installed BGII on my comp at work, fearing smthin would go terribly wrong and mess up my companies server data, but thank God it all works fine! :)
well... ALMOST fine... can you tell me why the game lags so much for me? it shud be able to run on a wooden calculator, so my comp config can't be too weak... i simply extracted the zip file and the patch and started playing... but it lags quite a lot!! why?
Ben, a couple thoughts: You might have a graphics card (or integrated graphics) that don't play well with all the settings. Try messing around with the BG Config 3D settings to turn off the less great features.
Also, if you are running from a USB key you might have a severely slow (USB 1!) drive, or a good drive plugged in a USB 1 jack. There's enough that gets pulled from the disk that this could slow it down, especially if you don't have much RAM available for the game.
And, of course, running other programs at the same time can make a huge difference. Especially a wiseley configured anti-virus. It might be scanning the drive each time it is written to, which would be almost constantly.
Just a couple of thoughts, Ben. Good luck!
Hi, I happen to be rather new in downloading games and I'm having this problem where I'll access the baldur.exe file then click on 'Install' but then nothing would happen... Anyone have any advice??
thanks
Tomy, if you are using the games on this list, there is nothing to install. That's the whole point. You just run the portable launcher and that's it. If you have an original copy of the game, install it then run the portable installer.
Thanks a lot for your help! I just had no idea what to expect from the download:(
hey can you help? i get this error message...
an assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 834
any help would be greatly appreciated, cannot wait to play this game again!
I have a patch question for BG2. I see there are 4 files. I see your instructions call for "extract and overwrite everything". My question is do I have to also (click on) run the exe file in addition to this? Or just put all 4 files in my BG2 folder and that's it? Thanks for your work!
When you say you've made these games portable you don't mean they can play on PSP or iPhone, etc. right? You just mean you don't need the cd's, but that's usually the case with any games you download on piratebay. You just copy over the cracked exe, and you no longer need cd's to run. So what's different about your 'portable' games?
Yea, he did more than a no-CD crack. Milo cracked them so they do not write or read from the Windows Registry. This allows you to copy the game (yes, without the CD) to a thumb drive or other portable media and play it on any computer without having to install it. This allows you to have one copy, one group of settings, one group of saves, one group of everything, and play it on any damned computer you want.
This is a massive difference from a simple no-CD crack.
Hello Milo and fellow gamers..
Just downloaded Baldur's Gate and Throne of Bhaal via Mininova...
I unfortunately get this error message: an assertion failed in chDimm.cpp at line number 628 Programmer says: unable to Open BIF:date/Hd0GMosc.bif...
Any advice would be very much appreciated, cheers
Hello! Just tried it. Great release!
However, I tried to install Dungeon-Be-Gone mod (the one which allows you to skip Irenicus dungeon).
Mod adds a new npc to the game, Jasper. Talking to Jasper allows player to make decicions about skipping the dungeon. Jasper's dialogues don't work unfortunately. I have to click randomly around dialogue box to get Jasper to do anything.
Any idea how to make this work? Everything else in this mod seems to work!
Link to the mod!
Thanks in advance!
the important download to launch the game doesn't work. the link is broken
