What is this game? Unreal is a first-person shooter computer game developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes and published by GT Interactive (now owned by Atari) in May 1998. It was powered by an original gameplay and computer engine that now bears the game's name, one that had been in development for over three years in founder Tim Sweeney's garage before the game was released. The player takes on the part of Prisoner 849, an otherwise anonymous persona aboard the prison spacecraft Vortex Rikers. The ship crash-lands on the lip of a canyon on the planet Na Pali, home of the Nali, a primitive tribal race of four-armed humanoids. The Nali and their planet have been subjugated by the Skaarj, a race of brutish yet technologically advanced reptilian humanoids. Skaarj troops board the downed Vortex Rikers and kill the remaining survivors, save for Prisoner 849, who manages to arm himself/herself and escape from the ship. The planet Na Pali is rich in "Tarydium", an exotic crystal that possesses a high energy yield, whose utility is the reason for which the Skaarj have invaded. The ship has crashed near one of the many Tarydium mines and processing facilities that the Skaarj have built. Prisoner 849 travels through the mines, meeting Nali slaves and eventually entering the ruins of Nali villages and cities, where the extent of the Nali's suffering and exploitation are made clear.

I know there are people who still have crashes and problems, but I've done all I can from my end, and I can no longer bang my head against the wall trying to fix what seems to be a game that has problems in its own right, regardless of what I do with my portable launchers.

I've done some tinkering to prevent any further errors, and I hope everyone enjoys! Naturally, this is still beta, and bugs might appear; leave a comment if you have any problems!

It is advised that everyone download this new version and delete the old one.

If your game crashes after the intro movies and just before the main menu, the path to the game is too long and you need to move the game closer to the root of your drive (such as C:/ or D:/ or J:/).

It's pretty late now, and I'm very tired.

Fortunately, I was able to complete the 3rd revision of BGtOS.
I haven't updated any links here yet, and I've only uploaded it to Demonoid for now.
A full re-download is required. There were considerable troubles from the last mess I made of the patching process, so this should be a welcome change for the better.

I've been bustin' my ass studying for university, and so I had to take a small break from my sites. Rest assured, I hear your clamor for releases and fixes! Trust me I'm working on them now! Regarding all the problems people have been having with the updated games, I'm thinking that the mess with all the patches is to blame. I will re-release torrents for a couple games, and see how that goes. I will go a step further, and include any bug-fixes that have been released with the game to try and kill those related issues. We'll see how that goes!

I'm ironing out the bugs from Baldur's Gate - the Original Saga and refining the template I used so that future releases will have less (none!) bugs. Currently, the launcher does not modify the registry as it should. The game should run fine, since the most important aspect is the baldur.ini file - which is properly modified.

EDIT: I FIX'D IT! If you want to update to the latest version, redownload the latest patch for Baldur's Gate - the Original Saga; I've replaced it.

EDIT 2: Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhall has had this issue fixed as well. I don't know if this was what was causing the assertion errors - I think not - but it's fixed!

If you've been trying to get these games to run in windowed mode and are having a hard time, look at this forum thread for two suggestions: D3DWindower and DXWnd.

Please post success (and horror!) stories if any of you try these programs out! Of course, you can also post alternative programs/tricks that have worked for you. Happy gaming!

BAM! This game has been FIX'D!
Before I give you guys the link to the patch however, you need to prepare your game folder.

First things first: the game will not run if the path to its folder is too long. I can't be bothered to figure out how long is too long, but suffice to say I had to change the name of folder to the game files... and now so do you.

1. Browse to your game folder.
2. Go to App.
3. Rename Baldurs Gate - The Original Saga to BGtOS. Capitalization is important!!

At this point, you are done preparing!
Download the patch here - overwrite everything. Please note this will overwrite your Baldur.ini file.

If at some later time, you'd like to change the default location of the game files (BGtOS), you can do so with the Baldur's Gate - The Original Saga Portable.ini file. You can change several folders and settings in there as well.

If you ever get an error message when starting the game (after the intro videos), move the game to the root of your drive and try again. If you do not get an error, that means the path to your game was too long.

EDIT: The launcher will create two files in the root of your drive; Baldurs Gate - The Original Saga Portable.ico and Baldurs Gate - The Original Saga Portable.nsi. To fix this, open the Baldurs Gate - The Original Saga Portable.ini file and find the line that says ;ExtractSources=TRUE. Remove the semicolon, and change true to false (capitalization doesn't matter). You can safely delete those two files.

I didn't like the last solution I had for BG2. Sure, it worked, but it wasn't...elegant as we like to say in programming parlance.

I've wanted to include an .ini file with releases, so you all have more options (easier access to command parameters, change the .exe to run if you've installed a mod or whatever, etc.). So I've changed things, and from now on there will be an .ini file that will take care of what "path.txt" was doing just this morning - and more!

There's no reason to update your game if it works, but for people who are just now coming here to figure out why their BG2 crashes, they can just download the patch from the last post. I've updated it to this new .ini system.

BG1 to follow shortly.

I'm confident that the bugs should be gone now with this patch. As always, post in the comments if you get errors or have problems.

Changes:

• The launcher will replace all old directory paths in the registry file, with the current directory. From what I could gather, this wasn't what was causing the errors and crashes, but it was a thing I've been meaning to do.
• The source of the crashes and assertion errors was the baldur.ini file. It has the locations of critical files for the game, and now the launcher will edit this file to point to the correct folders.
• There is now a "path.txt" in the data directory that contains the last directory the launcher was run from. It is used to update the registry and baldur.ini files. Do not edit this file unless you know what you are doing.
• I've updated my portable template to the latest version (2.6.4) from Loncarek's site. I couldn't find a change log, but it seems as if the registry file is handled better now.
• Dynamic updating of registry files should make its way to my other releases, and certainly to all futures ones.

Download the patch here. Extract and overwrite everything.
This will overwrite your baldur.ini file, so you might want to back that up beforehand.

Portable Fallout Tactics

What is this game? Unlike the previous two Fallout games, Fallout Tactics emphasizes tactical combat and strategy. Players are not able to respond to non-player characters, but they can still trade and gamble. Instead of towns, Fallout Tactics centers around Brotherhood bunkers and missions. The bunkers serve as a central point for the Brotherhood, and players can obtain the services of quartermasters, mechanics, personnel yeomen, and medics. Characters from completed missions occasionally visit the bunkers.

Fallout 2 should be fixed!

The Restoration Project mod was crashing everyone's game, so I had to remove it. The High Resolution patch is reported to give people problems with unsupported monitor resolutions, so I've included it as a separate download in the torrent to avoid any other possible crashes.

I was going crazy trying to figure out the reason behind everyone's crashes. From my end, I'd done everything correctly and there was no reason why it should crash. I even reinstalled the game and ran in from a non-portable perspective, and it still crashed (thanks for the save-game file Mr. Anonymous!). The problem seems to stem from the restoration mod that was installed along with the game, and I've read that the hi-res patch has the potential to cause crashes as well on unsupported resolutions. I will have a new release soon!

Portable Diablo v1.09

What is this game? Diablo is a dark fantasy-themed action role-playing game developed by Blizzard North and released by Blizzard Entertainment on January 2, 1997. Set in the fictional Kingdom of Khanduras (located in the Diablo series fantasy world of Sanctuary), Diablo has the player take control of a lone hero as he or she battles to rid the world of the eponymous Lord of Terror. Beneath the town of Tristram, the player journeys through sixteen dungeon levels to ultimately come face to face with Diablo and his demon minions. Does this really need an introduction?

What is this game? Fallout is a computer role-playing game produced by Tim Cain, developed by Black Isle Studios (though before the studio was named "Black Isle") and published by Interplay in 1997. What is this game? In the Kingdom of Ehb, a humble farmer's life is turned upside down when a small band of evil goblin-like creatures attack the community. The Krug, as they are known, must be stopped and the player's character is tasked with seeking help from the neighboring town of Stonebridge. Along the way, the player may meet others willing to help them in their quest. The player soon discovers, however, that their story does not end upon reaching Stonebridge. According to the game's back-story, The Kingdom of Ehb is a border kingdom in the continent of Aranna, next to the Plain of Tears. Originally a trading post on the outskirts of the Empire of Stars, Ehb later achieved temporary status as a military protectorate and province when the 10th Legion migrated westward. In the wake of the War of Legions, and the ensuing collapse of the Empire of Stars, Ehb became an independent kingdom in its own right. Stability was achieved thanks to the protection provided by its fortifications and the 10th Legion - one of the most highly trained armies of Aranna.

If you have an existing installation of DS you want to portableize, you can download the launcher only. I will have some internets available to upload Haegemonia: Legions of Iron to torrent after I get a seed or two on the DS torrent - In how ever many days it takes to upload everything.

Question: Why is Dungeon Siege taking so long? Answer: Because I found out there are 2 additional packs/maps for dungeon siege I had neglected to notice. And because real-life has prevented me from adding them yet. Funny thing was, I was all set to release and then I notice these...

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 has been completed. I am uploading it right now to Megaupload. A release will be posted here in about 12 hours (Going to bed, then work in the morning). I've solved the multiple-executable problem; ultimately it was a no-brainer, and there's nothing substantial to report other than a total win. The game has 3 'portable entry-points' (Game, map editor, campaign editor). Have fun. Links to come soon. Hold tight. I have also updated several facets of USBGaming.org.

• Box art images have been added for the 2 games so far, and I will add one for each subsequent release.
• I have re-uploaded Legions of Iron to Mininova, but as a compressed .rar to save everyone some time (Down to 400 MB from 787).
• I've uploaded Legions of Iron to Demonoid.com for some extra exposure. I will release on this site in the future, and I'm debating whether The Pirate Bay is worth the extra time.

Dungeon Siege has been put on hiatus because of poll. Also, I was having trouble with it. There is a registry entry that is in hex code which contains the path to the game. I have completed everything else besides this one problem, and the game appears to run, but you have to click past like 4 error messages; that's not fun. However, I've put that aside to work on Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Work is going smoothly here. There could be problems trying to get more than one executable to be portable for the same game (the map editor). I had a similar hiccup with Haegemonia and the Solon Heritage, but it's a slightly different issue - which I hope has nothing to do with this. I only have a limited number of hours a day to work on these portable games, so I hope everyone understands if I take my time. I don't intend to release something if I'm aware that it doesn't completely remove all traces of its execution. I might pick up Dungeon Siege to finish it up before moving on to Neverwinter Nights. I want to add the CEP *AND* the PRC to NWN, so that could be a 'fun' one to try and get working.

I've been working on an advanced portable launcher for the game Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna. It requires something more complicated than the simple one I had for Haegemonia. This progress will go towards making my next projects (such as the ones in the poll) much smoother and safer for the end-user.

Haegemonia: The Solon Heritage

What is this game? This game is also known in America as "Hegemonia" due to the English/American language differences (H(a)egemony is a real word, by the way.) Due to the success of the first game, Digital Reality produced an add-on package, The Solon Heritage, which added a few new features, such as a proper skirmish mode, and modding tools. It was not that well received, however, due to the lack of a new campaign. Because of contract issues (mainly of Wanadoo being sold), The Solon Heritage was not published in the US.

What is this game? This game is also known in America as "Hegemonia" due to the English/American language differences (H(a)egemony is a real word, by the way.) Haegemonia takes place in the distant future where humanity has colonized the solar system and tensions are high between the World Government of Earth and colonial Mars. A summit on Earth's moon is planned to ease tensions, but the Martian representative's shuttle is destroyed en-route by a third, currently unknown, party. The two sides blame each other and this one event sparks off the civil war between the colonists and Earth. Haegemonia takes place in the distant future where humanity has colonized the solar system and tensions are high between the World Government of Earth and colonial Mars. A summit on Earth's moon is planned to ease tensions, but the Martian representative's shuttle is destroyed en-route by a third, currently unknown, party. The two sides blame each other and this one event sparks off the civil war between the colonists and Earth. The player can side with Captain Jack Garner of Earth to quell the colonial uprising, or join Captain Nilea Cortilliari and the Martian colonists on their campaign for independence. Once the outcome of the war is decided, be it Earth or Mars, humanity unites under the new Unified Government and forms the Legions of Iron, its vanguard of expansion into the unknown. As the human race expands outward from Sol, mysteries are solved and more new ones are created as they encounter new worlds and alien civilizations.

Haegemonia will not be ready as soon as I'd hoped. Initially I wanted to combine the two games, so they use a single registry and folder. This will not be possible, since I would have to study and rewrite (and subsequently debug) the NSIS script for this to be possible. Instead, I will treat the two as if they were separate games. This is both faster and more practical in the long run. ETA: A day or two (three?). I am including patches up to 1.09, and the Christmas add-on. Leave a comment with a link to any additional relevant software or information before I make a final release.

The first game I will convert to USB-friendliness is Haegemonia (Hegemonia) from 2002. I will be doing both Legions of Iron, and The Solon Heritage add-on. For more information on this game, use Google.
